Top Ten IEP Commandments

  1. Consider the effect of the disability on the student's involvement in the regular curriculum.

  2. Develop goals and objectives enabling students to be involved and progress in the regular curriculum.

  3. State aids and services that will be provided in order for the student to be involved in the regular curriculum.

  4. Presume regular class placement.

  5. Afford participation in statewide assessments.

  6. State the location where each special education and related service will be provided.

  7. Consider transition service needs at an earlier time.

  8. Improve progress reports so that they are based on actual progress on goals and objectives.

  9. Consider certain special factors, including provision of assistive technology devices for all students' IEP's.

  10. Insure regular teacher input into behavioral intervention, supplementary aids and services, and staff supports.
